11+ Verbal Reasoning

Our 11+ resources are designed to teach skills and then discreetly test your child with exam-style questions and practice papers too. Giving you visibility to their progress. To help you support your child best, our resources are aligned to exam boards with progressive leveling, starting at year 3 and working to exam-style questions and practice papers in year 5. This allows you to set your child at a level that suits them and develop the skills needed overtime; removing exam pressure and building their confidence.

Verbal reasoning bears more resemblance to skills your child will have started to develop at school, but significantly uses these skills in very different ways. These types of questions focus on being able to understand and work out problems focused on words and letters. Numbers can be involved (such as in codes or problem solving), but only where they still relate in some way to words or letters. Students with a large vocabulary from Key Stage 2 and strong foundations in mental maths and problem solving skills will find verbal reasoning more accessible. At EdPlace our activities focus on building this core base early from Year 3 alongside familiarising students with the presentation of questions in this style which exactly replicates what your child will see in the 11+ exam.

How to use our resources to achieve results

Here at EdPlace, we believe that helping your child achieve their best on the 11+ exam doesn’t start in year 5. It’s important to understand your child’s full potential and help them develop the skills needed as early as year 3. This will also help you gauge your child’s prospects, ensuring they really shine at grammar school.
