Worksheet Overview

In this activity, we will need to prove our answers to comprehension questions.

To prove our answers, we need to use evidence from the text.

Read the passage below:

Jay looked into the saltwater lagoon.  It was sparkling under the sun like a diamond ring. He had spent six months training for this triathlon and finally, the moment had arrived. Carefully, Jay tested the water, listening for the starting horn. As the horn sounded, Jay dived into the water like a dolphin searching for food.

Was Jay prepared for this race? Use evidence from the text to support your answer.

Which words from the text tell us that Jay had prepared for the race?

He had spent six months training for this triathlon.

This quotation proves that he has prepared for the race by training for a long time.

Jay is very prepared for the race because it says "He had spent six months training for this triathlon".

Here, we have made a pointJay is very prepared for the race ....

And then supported it with evidence, which is a quotation from the text (using quotation marks): ..... because it says "He had spent six months training for this triathlon".

In this activity, you will be finding evidence to prove your points. Make sure the quotation you pick supports your point.
