Pathetic fallacy is a literary device where nature, weather, or an inanimate object reflect the characters' emotions or the atmosphere of a scene. This technique is used to create mood, enhance symbolism, and evoke a deeper emotional response from the reader.

However, in this activity, we are going to be concentrating on weather and how using different types of weather can help to create atmosphere.

Let's have a think about this together...

If you imagine a group of friends laughing, joking, and generally having lots of fun, what do you imagine the weather to be like?

We would probably go for a sunny day, as sunshine often reflects happiness.

Of course, we can still be happy when it rains (as in the picture above!) but if the sun is shining, it enhances the happiness that we witness in this scene.

Simple, right?

Let's have a go at some questions now.
